Meet Samina

I'm Samina, a Ward 8 resident, community volunteer and legal professional. Canada has been home for 16 years. It's where I've worked and raised three children.

I've volunteered in our community for many years, including co-chairing two school parent councils. I bring that local experience together with a background in Canadian law and international public service.

I'm running because I believe Council should listen carefully, ask the hard questions and plan responsibly, then turn priorities into measurable action for our community.

My priorities for Ward 8

My priorities for Ward 8 are clear: safer neighbourhoods and responsive policing, emergency preparedness, roads and infrastructure planned alongside responsible growth, protecting parks, green spaces and farmland, manageable housing solutions, and support for local businesses. Above all, transparent decisions with measurable results, guided by community input and respectful of your tax dollars, so residents enjoy peace of mind and a more liveable community.

Safety & community well-being

Practical municipal action for safer neighbourhoods: prevention first, and a timely response when it's needed.

  • Better lighting and traffic safety
  • Working with police for faster, more responsive service
  • Coordinated action on homelessness and addiction
  • Timely emergency and crisis planning, with early warning and a fast, coordinated response

Roads, traffic & infrastructure

Smoother traffic, safer streets and a real alternative to driving.

  • Clear signage and lane markings that guide drivers safely
  • Use traffic data to fix unsafe locations
  • Better transit connections, with safe walking routes to stops
  • More crossings, sidewalks and traffic calming for pedestrians
  • New development pays its fair share toward the roads and services growing neighbourhoods need

Housing, homelessness & addiction

Affordability means different things to different households. I'll support practical housing options that are truly within reach for the people who need them.

  • Help move people from the streets into shelter or stable housing, working with government and community partners, which also addresses neighbourhood safety concerns
  • Connect treatment with housing, counselling and ongoing support, so recovery continues after treatment
  • Expand transitional support for housing and recovery through partnerships, building a more sustainable, liveable community

Local economy & community character

Coming from a business family, I understand how much local businesses matter.

  • Support results-oriented investment and responsible development that creates opportunity
  • Protect the parks, green spaces and farmland that define our neighbourhoods
  • Make sure growth doesn't come at the cost of our natural, agricultural and recreational spaces

Good governance means transparency, clear priorities and measurable results.
